EdX has just released the newest version of the edX Platform on edx.org and edX Edge.

This release includes a number of new features and improvements. The changes include the following enhancements.

  • New courses on edx.org can offer two types of certificate: verified and Xseries. Honor code certificates are no longer available for new courses; instead, learners can audit courses without a fee. In addition, learners now have the option of applying for financial assistance to help cover the cost of verified certificates. For more information about these changes to course certificates, see News about edX Certificates.

  • Course teams can use a new implementation of the LTI advanced module that allows configuring whether LTI components open in a new browser window, a modal window, or embedded in a course page. The existing LTI advanced module continues to work, but does not provide the new options for launching. For more information, see the LTI Component topic in the Building and Running an edX Course guide, or the LTI Component topic in the Building and Running an Open edX Course guide.

  • The latest version of the edX mobile app for iPhones has been released. Learners who access edX courses using iPhones can now use the app to view HTML and text components, as well as complete assignments that consist of the basic assessment types (checkbox, dropdown, multiple choice, and text or numerical input). For more information, see The edX Mobile App in the edX Learner’s Guide.

  • This release introduces the initial version of comprehensive theming, which gives sites that run Open edX the ability to change how their sites look without making code changes. For more information, see Changing the Way Open edX Looks in the Installing, Configuring, and Running the Open edX Platform guide.
